EUR 1,000.00 per day for every MVA of a generator that is idle. It remains a rule of thumb but it indicates very well the importance of such machines. Especially if you consider that we monitor and maintain generators of more than 1,000 MVA.
Try before you buy
A Dutch dairy recently contacted SPIT to ask if we could help them reduce their rising energy costs.
We discussed our "try before you buy" scheme and agreed on a trial with their 250 kW evaporator (fan), one of the largest motors they had on site. The trial showed that annual energy savings of €115,200 would be achieved with the installation of a new controller on the application.
Short payback period
The price of the new drive delivered, installed and fully commissioned was €25,987, which would result in a payback period of less than 3 months.
Our customer did not have the capital to invest in the new drive upfront, so SPIT offered the drive on a long-term lease with a fixed rate of €498 per week (or €25,900 per year). This provides the customer with nearly € 92,000 per year in savings. In addition, they get the savings "for free" with the additional process benefits.

Huge savings
The use of AC drives in motor applications can bring huge savings to the industry, but for far too long, unscrupulous AC drive salespeople have presented you, the customer, with myths and lies to win that all-important sale for themselves.
These salespeople, the vast majority of whom are not engineers and have no formal technical qualifications, like to tell you that you will realize huge savings if you buy their drives. They calculate these savings using very simple energy savings calculators that make huge assumptions about the motors installed and the details of the application. But they don't take into account many other crucial elements.
This is nonsense, there is no way to use a calculator to accurately predict the savings that can be achieved when using a speed-controlled drive on your motors. Buying a drive based on a salesperson with no technical qualifications is commercial suicide.
