Getting real results through data-driven maintenance

Almelo, Netherlands - An innovative collaboration between drinking water company Oasen and SPIT, a leading supplier of static and rotating electrical machines, bridges the gap between advanced digitalization and efficient service provision in the water sector. Oasen, based in South Holland, supplies about 48 million cubic meters of drinking water annually to some 800,000 people and 7,500 companies in the eastern part of South Holland and the southwestern part of Utrecht. The company, headquartered in Gouda, operates an extensive network of seven treatment plants, nine pumping stations, and several extraction fields.

SPIT and Oasen: pioneering together in digital water management systems

The partnership with SPIT covers a broad spectrum of services, including consultancy for the procurement and implementation of starting and speed controls such as softstarters and frequency converters for pumps in particular, maintenance and repair of energy-efficient electric motors and their procurement. One of the most innovative aspects of this partnership is the implementation of SPIT's online condition monitoring platform, which includes the use of wireless intelligent vibration and temperature measurement sensors and data access to the various brands of frequency converters for a real-time health check of the pumps and their electric motors.

This technology enables Oasen, through an Application Programming Interface (API) provided by SPIT, to integrate and visualize measurement data and asset information directly into their own system. This has led to a significant improvement in the management of their treatment and pumping stations, as managers now have instant insight into the current condition of critical equipment.

Oasen and SPIT share a passion for technology and a better world with less waste and the best energy efficiency.

An essential part of this progressive approach is how SPIT efficiently bridges the gap between digitization and service. By correctly interpreting warnings and alarms from the digital environment, SPIT can respond appropriately. Sometimes this means taking action, sometimes not. These decisions, based on real-time data and analysis, help to further refine and improve digital models for water management.

The success of this collaboration highlights the value of digital innovation in the water sector and sets a new standard for how water management systems can take advantage of advanced technologies to increase efficiency, improve reliability and ultimately optimize service to end users. With this development, Oasen and SPIT confirm their leadership and commitment to sustainability and innovation in the vital sector of drinking water supply.
