SPIT, your partner in the waste-to-energy industry

Waste is no longer simply a waste product, but a source of energy. Behind this transition lies a world of complex facilities that must operate continuously. SPIT this happens through smart monitoring, targeted maintenance, and the foresight to plan ahead.

Waste-to-energy industry

The waste-to-energy industry plays a key role in this era of energy transition, stricter environmental requirements, and dependence on raw materials. This industry is an essential link in the transition to a sustainable and circular economy. Recycling reduces the demand for primary raw materials, and in addition to generating sustainable energy, residual heat can be effectively utilized for district heating networks and electricity generation via steam turbines.

The systems used for this purpose are large-scale and complex. Large mechanical systems and machines, electric drives, variable-frequency drives, and steam turbine generators are the essential links in this chain. This places high demands on performance, reliability, and efficiency. Unexpected downtime must be prevented at all costs.

Our services

SPIT a comprehensive portfolio of products and service solutions for the entire powertrain. The powertrain encompasses all mechanical and electrical components within a system, such as transformers, power electronics, low- and high-voltage motors and generators, mechanical transmissions and gearboxes, and equipment such as pumps, fans, shredders, conveyor belts, and sorting and separation systems.

It is precisely the interaction and mutual influence between these components that require special attention to ensure the reliability of the entire system. SPIT with renowned partners such as ABB, Schneider Electric, Schaeffler, and Iris Power, and holds the necessary ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 certifications.

SPIT Reliability Care

The SPIT program consists of four modules: Insight – Predict – Service – Response. These modules are tailored to each asset, system, facility, or component, depending on its importance, vulnerability, and current condition.

Installed (remote) sensors continuously monitor trends and performance (condition monitoring) and provide insights when anomalies are detected (Insight). This makes it possible to assess risks and plan appropriate measures in a timely manner (Predict). The Service module focuses on performing scheduled maintenance and repairs, both in our workshop and on-site. Response ensures continuity in the event of unexpected breakdowns.

Within the Noctua ecosystem, technical data and (remote) measurement data are processed and displayed in clear dashboards, which are then used to generate maintenance schedules.

Our experience

Within the waste-to-energy industry, SPIT is SPIT well-known partner with extensive specialized knowledge and experience. For many years, we have been performing measurements, inspections, maintenance and repair work, retrofits, and replacements for virtually all waste and energy processing companies in the Netherlands.

A selection of our projects:

  • Corrective, preventive, and condition-based maintenance of powertrain components
  • Regular maintenance and retrofitting of variable frequency drives and motors
  • Energy efficiency projects for electric drives and motors
  • Overhaul and rewinding of high- and low-voltage motors
  • Periodic offline insulation testing of high-voltage motors and generators
  • Visual inspections of large rotating machinery
  • Continuous (remote) insulation measurements
  • Continuous (remote) vibration monitoring of bearings and drives
  • Periodic inspections and NDT testing of plain bearings
  • System optimization through vibration damping
