Diesel engine replacement

An electric drive instead of a combustion engine: drastically reduced emissions, impressive energy efficiency and significantly lower operating costs. The machines operate more quietly and with greater precision, while sustainability and innovation are paramount.

Electrification forestry machinery

40% lower emissions

Our electric drive system has been specially developed to optimize the process of friction grinding. Compared to traditional diesel machines, it offers improved capacity and significant energy savings of up to 40%.

The electric system not only has the advantages of cleaner and quieter operation, but thanks to the constant torque it generates, the user also benefits from better controllability during grinding. This allows them to grind wood chips with precision and efficiency, which is both beneficial for operations and the environment.

Everything in one hand

From sketch to completion

When replacing a diesel engine with an electric motor, it is essential to pay attention to power and torque to ensure the same performance. Due to the constant torque of an electric motor, lower installed power is required. SPIT has extensive experience with such issues and therefore takes system responsibility.

In this case, a 355 kW electric motor from the Danish company Hoyer with a high efficiency class IE4 was chosen.

Precise, fast control

Imagine a large blender that grinds ingredients. The speed at which you add ingredients determines the quality of the final product. In grinding plants, there are special "feed screws" that add materials to the machine. Controlling these screws is essential: they not only ensure a good product, but also that the machine is not overloaded by too much force. So it's like perfectly dosing ingredients for the best recipe. That's where we help!

Global Service
Since our client sells its machines all over the world, fast service is of great importance. The Schneider Electric Drives we use guarantee a worldwide service network.

Purpose of this project

Sustainability

Electric drives offer several advantages over internal combustion engines, especially when considering sustainability in the context of forestry equipment:

Fewer emissions: Electric drives do not emit harmful exhaust emissions, such as CO2, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. This reduces air pollution and contributes to a healthier environment.

Energy efficiency: Electric motors are much more efficient than internal combustion engines, using less energy for the same task.

Less noise: Electric drives are quieter, providing less disturbance in natural habitats and a more pleasant working environment.

Less soil contamination: There is no risk of oil or fuel leaks from the engine, which can lead to soil contamination in wooded areas.

Power source flexibility: Electricity can come from renewable sources, such as solar or wind power, further reducing the overall carbon footprint of the machine. We also supply a battery storage system with it, allowing the plant to operate autonomously for 8 hours.

Less maintenance and waste: Electric engines typically require less maintenance and produce less waste (such as old oil and filters) compared to internal combustion engines.

Longer lifespan: Electric motors often have a longer lifespan than internal combustion motors, which can lead to a reduced need for replacement and thus a reduction in production impact.

OUR PROJECTS

Retrofit Siemens drives

Replacement of an old Siemens drive of 1,100 kW at 690V. For a quick conversion while retaining existing components, we apply the Schneider Electric Altivar Process Modular 900 series drive.

Lifetime extension

During lifetime analysis measurements, we found an upcoming problem in a particular generator set. A planned intervention extended the service life to 2035.
